Christmas Eve in the Dublin Mountains

It was the day before Christmas. As per usual, pandemonium reigned in Dublin’s supermarket aisles and department stores with last minute shoppers frantically buying groceries and presents. I needed to get away. But where can you go to escape all these constant Christmas reminders?

Fortunately, us Dublin dwellers have the Dublin mountains perched literally on our doorstep. Even more fortunate for me is the fact that not many Dubliners know it’s even there.

For a good mountain run than lasts over an hour, I always head to Tibradden located right in the heart of the Dublin Mountains. With the path from the carpark newly upgraded, it now runs smoothly from the pine forest to the Wicklow Way junction, allowing you to then cut up the boggy summit to Fairy Castle.

On Christmas Eve, there was a total of five of us on Tibradden. Down below, the million odd residents of Dublin were busy with their Christmas wares. Up above, us five were drinking in the cool winter weather and eating up the trails.

Now who was having the more merry Christmas?
