Finally, after months of waiting, today Bump, Bike and Baby – Mummy’s Gone Adventure Racing was born! This week, an amazing array of wonderful bloggers reviewed the book in advance of its release.
“She makes me want to be a better athlete.” Find out what the fabulous Lauren Thomas from GirlRunningLate really thought of Bump, Bike and Baby here.
“Moire says things that many women experience but may not be brave enough to say. She is true to herself throughout,” according to Gaelforce Events. Find out more here.
Niamh Griffin from RealGirlSport said, “”Do you need another book in your Kindle or on your shelf? Yes, if you’re interested in how pregnancy and child-rearing mix with sport in today’s world. Moire gives us an insight usually lost in the fluffiness of Hallmark pregnancy.” Read more here.
A ringing endorsement from Jen Benson: “a highly recommended book – enjoyable and lighthearted, yet honest and up-front – dealing with some difficult topics with insight and a good dose of humour.” The full review and some Q&A can be found here.
I enjoyed immensely writing this piece for Katie Campbell of Lessons in Badassery on ‘what it feels like to be Ireland’s National Adventure Racing Champion while Starting and Raising a Family.’
According to Dr. Juliet McGrattan, “”I thoroughly recommend this book. It made me laugh, it made me wince but it also addresses important issues and it made me think. It’s a story of perseverance, strength and self development all wrapped up with bringing 2 little boys into the world.” Her full review can be found here.
“This is a book about how we can belong to different tribes: cyclist, mother, wife, sports champion; and the struggle to balance these identities.” Huge thanks to Dublin Cycling Campaign for reviewing the book (here) and for championing cycling everywhere.
Emma from It’s Mostly Okay was kind enough to take time out to chat about Bump, Bike and Baby. I shared with her a few tips for getting fit once you have kids and the best advice I ever got about being a Mum. The full Q&A can be found here.
According to Paul Addicott, “Having two kids myself I don’t know how Moire finds time to train the way she does, or have the energy to do so. I asked Moire some questions about her journey.” I answered some of Paul’s questions here.
I am huge fan of Quest Ireland adventure race events, so I am truly honored by their review which can be found here. “Respect is ‘a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements’. I will now be using Moire’s story as a true example of the word.”
“Anyone who has ever trained for any athletic challenge while raising a family will understand everything that happens in this book… Go buy it.” Thanks to killianbyrne for the glowing review, which can be found here.
Padraig O’Connor from kayathlon, “highly recommends this book, whether you are involved in sport or not. It’s a wonderful, honest, raw and eye opening read.” His full review can be found here.
Cyclist Anna Hughes was kind enough to give me a guest blog space, allowing me to wax lyrical about the healing power of writing Bump, Bike and Baby

In Bump, Bike & Baby, Moire O’Sullivan charts her journey from happy, carefree mountain runner to reluctant, stay-at-home mother of two. With her sights set on winning Ireland’s National Adventure Racing Series, she manages to maintain her post-natal sanity, and slowly learns to become a loving and occasionally functioning mum.
About the author
Moire O’Sullivan is an accomplished mountain runner and adventure racer. In 2009, she became the first person to complete the Wicklow Round, a 100km circuit of Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains, run within twenty-four hours. She is married to Pete and is the proud mother of their two young sons, Aran and Cahal. While busy adapting to and learning about motherhood, Moire won Ireland’s National Adventure Race Series three times in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Bump, Bike and Baby is about this personal journey.
